Capital Testing’s ISO/IEC 17065 accredited Legal Timber Due Diligence certification program is based on the requirements specified in the American National Standard for Due Diligence in Procuring/Sourcing Legal Timber (ANS LTDD 2.0 2023). The goal of the program is to help wood products companies have total confidence that illegally sourced timber is excluded from their supply chain. The program assists manufacturers and suppliers alike in conducting Due Care under the U.S. Lacey Act, and supports conformity with the EU Timber Regulation and other legal timber requirements around the world. The program lays the foundation for a robust due diligence program, but is also flexible enough to integrate with a company's existing legality and chain of custody programs.
Given the state of the world's timber resources, it is more important than ever to ensure your supply chain is free from illegally sourced wood. By signing up with Capital Testing, you are demonstrating a commitment to timber legality that your customers will value while also mitigating your own legal and financial risks.
Capital Testing offers this certification program to wood products manufacturers and suppliers in the U.S. and Canada, with the potential for international services depending on the country. Contact us today for a quote!
Capital Testing's Legal Timber Due Diligence certification program includes the following steps:
Phase 1 - Preliminary Scoping Audit. This remote audit includes review of the client's current due diligence/procurement policy, as well as all supporting procedures currently used to ensure legal timber is excluded from the supply chain (risk assessment process, sample supplier questionnaire, document control system, etc.). Any procedures that are not compliant with LTDD requirements will be communicated to the client for correction.
Phase 2 - On-Site Audit. Once the policy review in Phase 1 is complete, a Capital Testing representative visits the client's facility to review due diligence/procurement processes to confirm compliance with their policy. This phase of the audit includes review of actual purchase contract documents including purchase orders, customs declarations, and certificates of origin (if applicable); supplier questionnaires; approved supplier database (including wood species approved for purchase from each supplier, if applicable); documented risk assessments; and other records as needed.
Phase 3 - Certification. Upon resolution of any non-conformances identified during the audits, the facility will receive a Legal Timber Due Diligence certification certificate, as well as a sample certification label which can be used for product labeling and marketing purposes. Continued certification simply requires annual on-site audits of the facility, similar to the audit conducted in Phase 2 above.
Whether you are a hardwood veneer manufacturer, plywood supplier, or even a kitchen cabinet fabricator, you are responsible for ensuring your supply chains are free from illegally sourced timber.
